If you are a student looking for an Indiana Title IX lawyer, this page lists the school guides on this site for Indiana universities. Each university runs its own process through its own office, although some campuses share a system policy, as explained below. Your written notice names the policy and procedure the school is using, and that notice controls your case.

How Indiana universities handle Title IX cases

These guides do not describe a statewide Indiana rule. The five schools fall into three policy groups.

Indiana University campuses. IU Fort Wayne and IU Indianapolis both follow Indiana University’s UA-03, Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct, which shows a last review date of June 26, 2025. The IU Indianapolis policy index says IU-wide policies apply to that campus. Under UA-03, Section VI is the student Title IX route and Section VIII is a separate student university sexual misconduct route. The two sections use different questioning rules at the hearing.

Purdue campuses. Purdue Fort Wayne’s Title IX office links Purdue’s Title IX Harassment policy, III.C.4, and Purdue’s Procedures for Resolving Complaints of Title IX Harassment. The West Lafayette guide covers the same procedure, which was revised June 30, 2025 and defines days as calendar days. Purdue handles other discrimination and harassment complaints under a separate procedure.

Indiana State University. Indiana State uses its own Policy 923 Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment, a Board of Trustees policy. Its posted investigation steps come from the Interim Policy 923 Complaint Resolution and Investigation Procedures, dated July 2021. The Hearing Procedures and Appeal Procedures that Policy 923 says will be published were not posted with the policy when the guide was checked on September 25, 2026.

Two Fort Wayne schools. IU Fort Wayne and Purdue Fort Wayne are separate institutions. IU Fort Wayne’s history page says the former IPFW campus was reorganized into the two on July 1, 2018. Check an IU Fort Wayne notice against the IU policy it names, and a Purdue Fort Wayne notice against the Purdue documents it names.

Indianapolis. IU Indianapolis became the official campus name on July 1, 2024, after the former IUPUI split. Some former IUPUI students stayed on a Purdue degree path, so confirm which institution sent your notice.

The IU, Purdue Fort Wayne, and Indiana State guides each say that the version that applies can depend on your incident date and your notice. Ask the office handling your case which version it is applying.

Indiana university guides

  • Indiana State University: A guide for Indiana State University students. Governing policy: Policy 923 Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment. Either party may appeal a determination to the President on three listed grounds. See the school page for appeal timing.

UA-03 Section VI says a hearing-decision appeal is due no later than 10 calendar days after the written hearing decision is sent. A Section V dismissal appeal has its own 10-day period from the dismissal notice.
  • Indiana University Indianapolis: A guide for IU Indianapolis students on the IU route. Governing policy: UA-03, Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct. UA-03 Section VI.8 says a responsibility appeal goes to the campus Student Affairs official or designee no later than 10 calendar days after the written hearing decision is sent.
  • Purdue University: A guide for Purdue students in West Lafayette. Governing policy: the Title IX Harassment policy, III.C.4, and the Procedures for Resolving Complaints of Title IX Harassment. See the school page for appeal timing.
  • Purdue University Fort Wayne: A guide for Purdue Fort Wayne students, separate from IU Fort Wayne. Common questions

Do all Indiana universities on this site follow the same policy?
No. IU Fort Wayne and IU Indianapolis use IU’s UA-03. The two Purdue schools use Purdue’s Title IX Harassment policy, III.C.4, and its Title IX procedure. Indiana State uses its own Policy 923.

Is the appeal deadline the same everywhere?
No. The documents use different clocks, triggers, and day units. Indiana State’s posted documents give no Policy 923 appeal deadline, and its Code of Student Conduct’s five-business-day appeal is for Code findings. Do not assume it applies to a Policy 923 decision. Use the date in your own written determination or dismissal notice.

What should I check first in my notice?
Check which institution sent it, which policy and section it names, and which version it applies. At IU, look for UA-03 Section VI or Section VIII. At Purdue, look for the Title IX Harassment procedure or the separate discrimination and harassment procedure.
