If you are a student looking for a Utah Title IX lawyer, this page links to our guides for three Utah public universities. Each guide explains, in general terms, how that university handles a Title IX, discrimination or sexual misconduct complaint against a student.
Each university runs its own process under its own policy. The written notice you receive, and the policy version it names, control your case.
How Utah universities handle Title IX cases
Each school on this page uses its own rules. We did not find a shared system-wide Title IX procedure in the documents behind these guides.
- University of Utah: Rule R1-012B, the Complaint Process Rule, which uses the definitions in Rule R1-012A, the Non-Discrimination Rule.
- Utah State University: Interim University Policy 2102 and a separate document, Procedures 2102. Policy 2101 and Policy 2103 cover some related matters.
- Weber State University: PPM 3-32 and its Appendix A, Hearings and Appeals for Title IX Sexual Harassment Complaints. The Student Code, PPM 6-22, routes protected-class discrimination and harassment complaints to PPM 3-32.
At each school, a dismissal under the Title IX rules does not necessarily end the matter. Another university policy or process may still apply.
At a hearing, each school has the advisor, not the student, question the other side. Each school also provides someone to do that questioning if you do not have an advisor. At the University of Utah, this applies to the automatic hearing in sexual misconduct matters.
Most of the deadlines described in these guides are counted in calendar days. Weber State’s policy also uses working days for some steps and does not define them.
Utah university guides
- University of Utah: the university’s OEO office handles complaints under Rule R1-012B. Sexual misconduct matters get an automatic hearing before a Hearing Committee. The rule gives five calendar days from notice of the hearing decision to request an appeal, and five calendar days from the date of dismissal to appeal a dismissal.
- Utah State University: the Civil Rights and Title IX Office applies Policy 2102, last revised February 23, 2026, and Procedures 2102, updated April 1, 2025. Procedures 2102 give 10 calendar days from the date of a written Determination to appeal it. See the school page for dismissal appeal timing, because two sections of the procedures describe its start date differently.
- Weber State University: the Office of Equal Opportunity applies PPM 3-32, with Appendix A for Title IX Sexual Harassment hearings and appeals. Non-Title IX student cases follow the Student Code’s due process and appeal steps. See the school page for appeal timing.
Common questions
Do all Utah public universities follow the same policy?
No. Each school on this page has its own rule or policy, its own office and its own hearing and appeal steps.
Is the appeal deadline the same everywhere?
No. The University of Utah’s rule allows five calendar days after notice of a hearing decision. Utah State’s procedures allow 10 calendar days from the date of a Determination. Weber State’s guide explains its Title IX appeal window and why you should confirm the start date. Use the date in your own decision.
Which policy version applies to my case?
Check your notice. At the University of Utah, the two rules have different effective dates, and the current posting does not settle which version governs an older case. At Utah State and Weber State, the policy and related documents show different revision dates. Each guide suggests asking the university office to confirm the version.
