If you are a student looking for an Oregon Title IX lawyer, this page links to our guides for three Oregon public universities. Each guide explains, in general terms, how that university handles a Title IX or sexual misconduct complaint against a student.

Each university runs its own process under its own policy. The written notice you receive, and the policy version it names, control your case.

How Oregon universities handle Title IX cases

Each of these three universities has its own policy and procedure. We did not find a shared statewide procedure in the documents behind these guides.

All three schools separate a Title IX track from other ways of handling sexual misconduct:

  • Oregon State University uses its Investigation and Resolution Process for Title IX Complaints for conduct that meets its Title IX definition. Other conduct may go through a separate, non-Title IX process.
  • Portland State University uses Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy 20-02. Conduct outside that policy may be covered by Prohibited Discrimination and Harassment Policy 12-01 or the Code of Student Conduct and Responsibility.
  • The University of Oregon uses its Student Standard Operating Procedures. The written Notice of Allegations says whether a charge is a Title IX Sexual Harassment Claim, and only those claims get the Evidence File and live hearing steps.

In a Title IX hearing at all three schools, an advisor questions the other party and witnesses, and the university provides an advisor if you do not have one.

The schools count days differently. The Oregon State Title IX deadlines described in our guide are stated in business days. Portland State’s Policy 20-02 defines a Day as a business day. University of Oregon’s procedure uses calendar days unless it says otherwise, but its final-decision appeal window is in business days.

Oregon university guides

  • Oregon State University: the Equal Opportunity and Access office runs the Title IX process under the Investigation and Resolution Process for Title IX Complaints, updated February 18, 2026. That process gives five business days to appeal a dismissal and five business days to appeal a hearing decision. The general Code of Student Conduct appeal section covers non-Title IX findings.
  • Portland State University: Title IX cases run under Policy 20-02, with Policy 12-01 and the conduct code covering other matters. Policy 20-02 gives 10 Days, which it defines as business days, from delivery of the Notice of Outcome to appeal a hearing outcome. The guide explains why you should confirm which policy version applies to your notice.
  • University of Oregon: the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access uses the Student Standard Operating Procedures, effective January 1, 2026. The procedures give ten business days from receiving a final decision or Action Plan to appeal, and seven calendar days to appeal an early dismissal.

Common questions

Do all Oregon public universities follow the same policy?

No. Each school has its own policy and procedure, and each separates Title IX cases from other misconduct cases in its own way.

Is the appeal deadline the same everywhere?

No. For a hearing decision, Oregon State’s Title IX process says five business days. Portland State’s Policy 20-02 says 10 Days from delivery of the Notice of Outcome. University of Oregon’s procedures say ten business days from receiving the final decision. Dismissal appeals have their own clocks. Use the date in your own decision.

Which policy version applies to my case?

It depends on the school and your dates. University of Oregon says the policy and code in force at the time of the alleged conduct govern. Portland State’s policy documents show more than one date, so its guide suggests asking the Title IX office in writing. Check the policy and version named in your notice.
